At a 200MW solar farm in South Texas, we’ve partnered with local sheep farmers to use grazing as a natural and effective method for vegetation management. By replacing heavy, hydrocarbon-powered mowing equipment, this collaboration reduces maintenance costs, minimizes environmental impact, and creates a sustainable solution that benefits both the solar farm and the agricultural community.
Access to Land and Reviving Traditions
This partnership provides sheep farmers with much-needed access to grazing land at a time when development pressures have removed large areas from agricultural production. For many farmers, it’s an opportunity to sustain their livelihoods and continue family farming traditions.

I’ve been in sheep production my entire life,
my granddad did it, my dad did it, and now I’m doing it. With partnerships like this, we’re seeing an opportunity for sheep farming to thrive again, like it did 50 years ago.
The use of grazing is a perfect tie to solar,
but the greatest benefit is to the US sheep industry, which has been suffering for decades.
