Landowner Partnerships

How Can Your Land Work for You?

By partnering with us on solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects, landowners gain a reliable, long-term income stream through leasing. While most of our partners prefer long-term leases, we also offer the option to purchase land when landowners prefer that choice. We aim to provide the flexibility that best suits our valued partners.

With over 100 years of agricultural experience woven into our DNA, we understand the needs of farmers and landowners. Our approach ensures that landowners benefit directly from the development while preserving the integrity and legacy of their land for generations to come.

A Message to Landowners: What to Expect when Partnering with Us

We’re looking to partner with you to build a solar, wind, or battery storage project on your land. You would receive steady rent payments, and we would take care of all the maintenance for the project’s lifetime (typically 30-40 years).

The project is typically designed to fit your land with minimal disruption, so activities like livestock grazing can continue. At the end of the lease, the land is restored to its original state, ensuring no lasting impact. Throughout the process, we aim to keep you informed, so you always know what’s happening.

Site Assessment

We begin by assessing your land's suitability for solar, battery storage or wind projects.

Milestone: The landowner finalizes and signs an option, lease, or purchase agreement, securing a reliable income stream or selling their land.

Utility Interconnection

The interconnection process is what allows the energy facility to connect to the electric grid. We perform studies and prepare an application for grid connection.

Milestone: BayWa r.e. receives an interconnection agreement with the grid operator.

Permitting

We work with local authorities to obtain the necessary permits, while engaging with local community members to communicate about the project’s plan.

Milestone: BayWa r.e. receives all permits required to build the project.

Electricity Sales

We find creditworthy counterparties to buy the energy produced by the facility. The counterparty could be a local utility, a large national corporation, or a regional customer with high energy needs, such as a university, hospital, or data center.

Milestone: BayWa r.e. signs a Power Purchase Agreement to sell the electricity produced.

Construction

We build the solar, battery storage, or wind farm, making lease payments throughout the process.

Milestone: The solar, wind, or battery storage project is fully constructed and starts operations, adding electricity to the power grid.

Operations & Maintenance

Our team ensures the long-term care of the energy farm.

Decomissioning

Once a facility reaches the end of its useful life, the project’s panels, inverters, batteries, and equipment will be removed and recycled.

Milestone: The land is returned to its prior state or to meet the landowner’s needs.
