Gerardo Ferrando, VP of Development, Latin America
Gerardo brings 20 years of finance and deal structuring experience to BayWa r.e where he serves as Vice President of Development for Solar Projects in Latin America. Previously, Gerardo co-headed the San Francisco office for Water Capital where he ran the structured finance group focusing on water treatment/ reuse and renewable power projects in Latin America. While at Water Capital he lead the team that financed the largest PV installation in Latin America in December 2008. Prior to joining Water Capital, Gerardo spent six years with Lend Lease, a global real estate property, and infrastructure solutions provider. During this time Gerardo played a key role structuring more than $2.6 billion in project financings, one of these transactions earned the 2005 North American Public Private Partnership Deal of the Year by Project Finance magazine. He was directly involved in managing a corporate equity investment portfolio of $110 million in military housing assets, as well as managing Lend Lease’s entire investment pipeline for real estate development projects in North America. Gerardo began his career as a member of various financial organizations including, Lehman Brothers London (M&A group), BBVA Bancomer (sovereign and high yield fixed income portfolio management and trading), and OPCAP (financial analysis) a private equity firm in Mexico. He holds a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. Gerardo has also participated in executive education programs in leadership and strategy from the Columbia Business School as well as in sustainable entrepreneurship from the Universidad del Medio Ambiente (UMA) in Mexico.
Jam Attari, CEO, BayWa r.e. Solar Projects
As a senior member of BayWa r.e.’s $1 billion global solar energy portfolio, Jam currently serves as the CEO of BayWa r.e’s Solar Projects North America. In this role, he oversees the development, financing, and construction of BayWar.e.’s solar project portfolio in the US and Mexico. He sits on the Board of BayWa r.e.’s North American Solar Projects Business and also serves as the Chairman of SustainOC. Prior to this role, Jam was a founding member of, AMSOLAR International, a San Diego-based solar development and finance company delivering solar projects to the Government and Educational Sectors. For much of his career, he has led the development of global strategic efforts for a number of Fortune 100 companies such as Motorola, HP, Samsung, and AT&T. During this time, Jam was a Partner with Archstone and Charter Consulting; VP at Sapient, where he helped lead the North American Strategy/Business Consulting practice; and a Senior Manager of Ernst & Young Strategic Advisory Services. He began his career at Dow Chemical. Mr. Attari holds an MBA from The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Bioengineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Mario Pani, Regional Manager, Latin America
Mario Pani is the Regional Manager of Latin America for BayWa r.e. and is responsible for the expansion of the company to Latin America including market assessment, strategy, implementation, development, investors relations and customer acquisition across the different markets. Prior to joining the company, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of NuuPower USA Corp., a key player in the Mexican residential solar market as both a panel manufacturer and installer of solar systems. Mario led the expansion of operations into the US market. Mario brings a significant experience to BayWa r.e. in finance and business development managing teams and processes across a range of industries. Previously, he served as the Managing Partner at Kairos Capital, a private equity firm focused in real estate investments in southern California. Mario has also held several key executive positions in real estate development, logistics, and technology organizations. He began his career in private banking in Mexico with a focus on mergers and acquisitions. Mario holds a B.S. in business administration and finance from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and an M.B.A. with a concentration in entrepreneurship from Boston University Graduate School of Management. He is fluent in Spanish, English and conversational in Italian.
Rebecca Sternberg, VP, Power Marketing
Rebecca Sternberg is currently serving as the VP, Power Marketing for BayWa renewable energy. In her role, she helps corporate, university and other leaders meet their renewable energy commitments. Rebecca brings over 17 years of experience in customer experience and corporate development strategy, technology implementation and corporate sustainability program design with organizations such as Ernst & Young, Accenture and Kaiser Permanente. Prior to joining BayWa, Rebecca spent two years leading the global Fortune 1000 team for SolarCity, where she grew sales to more than 150% of plan while expanding the group’s reach across the Fortune 500. Rebecca holds an MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio, an MS in Health Science from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and a Graduate Certificate in Economics from the University of York (England). Rebecca has spoken at numeroud conferences including, AASHE, Smart Energy Decisions, Business Renewables center
Vitaly Lee, EVP, Development
Vitaly has over 20 years of experience in both domestic and international energy marketplace with a track record of accomplishments in resolving complex commercial, regulatory, financial, tax and other business issues. He currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Development at BayWa r.e. Solar Projects where he oversees the development of BayWar.e.’s solar project portfolio in the US and Mexico. He serves as Vice-Chair on the Board of SustainOC. Prior to this role, Vitaly led asset management for a .5 GW geothermal & solar portfolio at Terra-Gen, a private equity owned IPP, one of the most recognized renewable developers in the US. As a key member of the senior management team, he was charged with maximizing the commercial value of the assets by proactively managing key relationships with senior utility executives. In addition, he spearheaded the power marketing effort with C&I customers. Prior to Terra-Gen, Vitaly has held various leadership positions at AES Corporation, a Fortune 200 global IPP company, where he was actively involved and played a frontline role in business development and M&A, strategic planning and later running asset management for a 4.4 GW gas-fired portfolio in Southern California. Vitaly was instrumental in establishing the regulatory framework for AES in California post energy crisis of 2000-2001. Vitaly has negotiated multiple cross-border transactions and has traveled to 20+ countries. Vitaly started his career as a tax associate at Arthur Andersen where he advised his clients on complicated cross-jurisdictional tax issues and conducted tax due diligence for prospective acquisition targets. Vitaly holds an MBA from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business as well as Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Delaware where he focused on Public Finance and Taxation.
